Solipsism

The only reality my senses could detect was the pure, white emptiness of nothing. It would have been a lot more serene and peaceful, were it not for the fact that it meant that I had failed. Again.

"You're really bad at playing God, you know," said the other voice. I couldn't see him, of course, but he was there. Mocking me.

"Oh good, you're still here," I said, with an audible sigh. "I'm so glad I have you to keep me company. I mean, it would be a shame if I could actually create a stable universe, for once. How awful would that be?"

"Hey, it's not my fault your last universe blew up."

"Yes it is!" I shrieked. "Don't you have anything better to do than torment me?"

"Admit it, you'd miss me," said the other voice.

"Miss you like a hole in my head," I muttered. Was I using that phrase right? Probably not, but it didn't really matter. I didn't actually have a head. I didn't have any physical features, for that matter. I was a God. Wasn't that enough?

I waited in silence, musing over my last failure. It wasn't long before the other voice broke the silence. "Well, aren't you going to try again?"

"What's the point," I muttered. "You're just going to ruin it anyway."

"As if that's stopped you before," said the other voice. "Although if you want to spend the rest of your existence in solitude, I guess this is as good of a place as any."

I scowled, but the other voice had a point. I couldn't spend the rest of my life like this. What else could I do, other than make a new reality.

"This one will be different," I said. Was I threatening the other voice, or was I trying to reassure myself? "This time, I'll start with...
