From Darkness It Comes

Looking at the Library

Darrin makes his way to the library, hoping Lisa was doing some reading or sitting around the patio lounge behind it having a coffee. Although he knows little of her he knows a lot of the kids around here like that lounge, so it's as good a place as any to check. Besides, if she happens to be a reader she may like the library just for the books.

When he gets there he walks around the back first, to check the patio. There are dozens of kids sitting around sipping drinks and reading. A few of them are quietly chatting off to the sides, but nowhere in the mix does he see his love, Lisa.

He makes his way through the lounge and into the back of the library. It takes a while for him to wind through all the main sitting and reading areas of the library, but his search reveals no sign of Lisa.

On his way out, through the main hall and by the front desk, he is approached by a younger librarian woman. "Is there something I can help you find?"

"No thanks. I was just looking for someone."

"Oh, were you supposed to meet them here?"

"No, just hoping to find them."

"Well, perhaps I can tell you if they've been here recently. What do they look like?"

Darrin smiles at the thought of Lisa. "She's a beautiful girl, about this tall, with long red hair. Another freshman, like me."

The librarian thinks for a moment and her face fills with mild sorrow. "Sorry, can't say that I have seen her."

Darrin's smile fades and he sighs. "Oh well, thanks anyway."

"You could try the grassy hill over by the stadium. On nice sunny days like this a lot of the kids like to hang out there."

Darrin nods and walks out the door with only a single word. "Thanks."

Stepping back into the sunlight he thinks for a moment of where would be the best place to look next. His drive to find her has not wavered.
