From Darkness It Comes
Student Information Is Private
Darrin heads to the main offices of the school, in hopes of being able to find out what he can about where to find Lisa, but soon realizes that just finding the right office inside the building might be an issue. He wanders the halls and checks all sorts of signs on doors and finally is able to find the Students Affairs Office.
He walks into the office and finds out it's busier than is expected. There are lines of students at the counter and others sitting in the waiting area reading magazines and filling out forms. Knowing he has no choice he steps up and gets into the main line.
As he waits he sees other students being told to move aside to fill out forms or taken into the back offices for meetings. Some seem pleased, some are turned away, and some even throw fits of anger, but each one moves the line ahead. Slowly the line moves up and Darrin finds himself being called to the counter.
"How can I help you sir?"
"I am looking for information on where I can find a student."
"What do you mean, sir?"
"I am looking for a certain student and was hoping you could tell me where their dorm room is."
"Sorry sir, student information is private."
"It's very important I find her."
"Sorry sir, student information is private."
"You don't understand, it's a matter of life and death. I have information I have to get to her before it's too late. She will be very upset if I am not able to get this to her in time, but I missed our meeting this morning." Darrin knew this lie was a long shot, but he had to try it.
"I really shouldn't do this, but what's her name?"
Darrin silently gulps as he realizes the flaw in his plan. "Lisa. She is a freshman. With red hair."
"What is her last name? So I can look her up."
Damn. He sees it falling apart before him. "I don't know. She never gave me that information yet. I was expecting it all with her paperwork at the meeting I missed."
"Well, sir, without that information there isn't much I can do."
Darrin looks very despondent and outwardly sighs this time. "Thanks for you time. I should have known this was a dead end. I just feel sorry for her."
As he turns to leave the lady at the counter says, "I wish I could tell you more, but most freshman who aren't assigned a private room in one of the larger dorms are left living in the Tracksus Hall student housing building. You could try there, but if she pre-reregistered and paid she could be in any of the dorms."
Darrin leaves and wanders back out through the winding halls of the building. To him this seemed like a waste of time, so he has to take his search elsewhere.
