Kekkaishi ~ Interlude of the Snow

Scenario 1: School Days

"Yoshimori! Toriyuki-Chan! Don't forget to eat your lunches later!" Shuji reminded from afar to both Yoshimori and I.

"Got it!" Both of us answered in unison, dashing off to school.

Karasumori Academy – the school built right on the very sacred land of Karasumori that was the responsibility of the Sumimuras and Yukimuras. I've been accepted as another addition to the Sumimura family and had become another witness to the rivalry both externally and internally. I'm still amazed at how Shuji and Toshimori carry out their daily routine while Yoshimori and his Grandfather squabbled and fought. Not wanting to be a freeloader, I helped Shuji out in the daily household chores and grocery shopping.

In the school however, I wasn't the girl with split personality disorder, I was a normal High School Senior. Since I was in the same section as Tokine, we ended up meeting during lunch breaks and in between classes for updates on the Kekkaishi activities.

Strangely, since he heard that I was made a Senior there, Yoshimori had been approaching me to help him keep an eye out on Tokine. He may not have said anything, but I suspected that the young Sumimura boy had a crush on the Yukimura girl. Even though their families were rivals, the two of them looked great together. The whole idea would have been great too, except for one little problem.

While Tokine appeared nice to everyone, she was the complete opposite towards Yoshimori. After watching how she crushed Yoshimori with few words alone, I made a mental note to never get on her bad side. Not unless I wished an early death. Sadly, Tokine refused to have lunch with Yoshimori, so I often end up running from the classrooms to the rooftops during recess whenever he called me over for 'important lunch meetings'.
"Yoshimori, don't you think stalking her would make her hate you even more?" I asked.

Yoshimori sucked his coffee milk dry before launching into another embarrassed outburst. "I wasn't stalking her! W-We just take the same path home! Anyway, why the heck are you even asking me that random question?"

I remained silent, slurping my peach juice loudly to fill the awkward void. 'Oh no… If I told him that Tokine pleaded with me to make him stop the stalking, he's going to go into his depressed mode.' I grimaced at the dreaded thought. 'I don't want to end up carrying him all the way home again… not while we're on the rooftop…'

"Err… Just trying to offer some ways to help you win Tokine's heart," I lied.

At that line, Yoshimori's face turned red. "S-SHUT UP! I'M NOT IN LOVE WITH HER!"

I laughed, as steam shot out of Yoshimori's ears. Just then I noticed a shadow watching me intently from afar. Turning to the side, I caught a glimpse of spiky black hair and tanned skin. The boy who stood there vanished as quickly as he came. 'Could it be… Gen?' I wondered. Seeing emptiness once more, I content myself with a shrug.

Time flew by before I knew it. I didn't even realise that Mathematics class ended until the bell rang and students began to pack their bags. Looking at the clock, I realised that there was still some time left before the Kekkaishi duties started.

I could head home, Shuji-san may need help with the cooking and I could get some homework done.

Or maybe I should go to the Rooftop. Just in case Yoshimori had fallen asleep there.

On the other hand, I could check out the school clubs and sign up for something.
