The Thief of Alvera

The second level of the dungeon is too far below for anyone in there to hear the noises. You decide to go up and investigate yourself.

You remove the jewel from under your pillow and put it in your pocket. You then grope inside your leather bag for your 9 inch dirk.

The dirk has a fine steel blade and an ornate dagger hilt. It is one of your favourite possessions. You had stolen it on the first time you broke into a house. You had to make a hasty retreat that night, you had tripped on a loose stone on the stairs and knocked down a few candles. One of them set the curtains on fire. You had picked up the dirk before going upstairs and you hid it in your bag and escaped the way you came in.

You tuck the dirk's sheath in your belt, and holding the dirk tightly in your right hand you go up to the ground floor. There you hear someone pounding on the steel door in the room next to yours. That room leads to Andon's quarters and the steel doors are always locked.

You look around in the backroom and find a sturdy club among the barrels. Arming yourself with the club you open the steel door slightly.

You see three men in the hallway, one of them seems to be a petty magician, he is using weak spells to break the door.

You have seen his kind before, they are all usually failed students of the College of Wizardry in Tyranop. Armed with the weakest spells and an elementary knowledge of magic at best, they work as mercenaries and entertainers at fairs and such.

The man is guarded by two burly, bald men in chainmail armed with steel sabers which shone in the torchlight.

The magician is concentrating hard on the door, hurling spell after spell. The door is weakening and rattling on it's hinges.

You have to act fast, you can either charge blindly at them with your club and dirk or kill the magician with your dirk and take care of the other two with your club. Or you could always run down into the dungeons and wake up the others.
