The Thief of Alvera

Though the idea of selling the jewel seems attractive to you at first, you realise that by selling the jewel you will go against the last wishes of Reld. He had put his life at stake for it, and from the likes of him, he wasn't a common thief. No, there is more to this whole affair than meets the eye and you will not rest unless you see this through.

You have made your choice, you shall go to Tyranop, wherever that is.

"I have decided Andon.", you say,"I will go to Tyranop and give this jewel to Merloch, whoever that is."

"Very well Reon.", Andon says, though he does not like your decision, the steely determination in your eyes deters him from arguing,"You may leave whenever you want. I will make necessary arrangements. Oh, and do you know where Tyranop is?"

"I know it is somewhere in central Aregor."you reply.

"Good. I'll show you exactly where it is.", he says. He then gets up and opens a large wooden chest and brings out a large, rolled, leather parchment. He opens the parchment, revealing an ornate map.

The various land and water bodies have been painted and the landmarks are marked in bright red. Calligraphic lettering adorns the borders of the map with an ornate compass in one corner.

"A fairly accurate map of Miglor.", Andon explains. "I stole it from a rich merchant in Kandar back in the days when I was young. Anyway, coming back to the topic, Alvera is the red dot over here", he said, placing his fingers on a red dot on the eastern coast,"And Tyranop is over here,"he said, moving his finger to another red dot in the rough center of the map.

"It's quite far and the roads are missing in many parts. The roads were destroyed during the third Galatio-Areg war which took place some sixty years ago and no one has bothered to repair the roads yet. Travel along these roads is long and dangerous, once you cross into Aregor, you won't find many human settlements till Prera which is the first town you'll encounter on your route. Also the region brims with outlaws who are not part of the undergrond criminal network".

You nod as you absorb all of what Andon has said. Up till now, yours was a simple life on the streets of Alvera. You never ventured outside the city, leave alone going outside the kingdom. But all this has been drastically changed in one night. You and your confounded curiosity, you say to yourself. Andon's practical, matter-of-fact voice brings you back from your thoughts. He tells you to go to bed.

"It is quite late in the night, we can talk tomorrow.", he tells you and shoos you out of his chambers.

You make your way to the first level of the basement, which functioned as the brothel. The whores have been sent into hiding in a place that you have no idea about. All you know is that the rooms here have comfortable beds for you to sleep in.

The events of the night have exhausted you and you fall asleep almost immediately.

You wake up suddenly around an hour before dawn. You were dreaming about dark forms trying to break doors. You then hear a thud, one resembling that of a door falling off of its hinges.

You suspect something going on in the upper floors.
