The Uplink World
You discard the rusted lock from the fire door and plow through. The cold has found its way in, but thankfully not the rain. You wrap your arms around your chest and exhale hard...your breath visibly curls from your lips and then dissipates.
Upon surveying the room, you find it in shambles. The overhead lights had long since burnt out. The only source of light to be seen were the neon colors of the streets streaming through the shattered windows. A ratty sofa sat pushed against the far wall.
"Help me," came a voice. You turn in its direction and discover the pallid face of a girl staring up at you from her place by the corner. Her clothes are earthy and torn...and stained with dry blood.
