Forest Dweller

You spread the herbs on the ground as usual, then chant the words you were taught so long ago. The ritual is a means to calm the forest from its desperate state so it may continue to grow. If it were not for the chants of the elves, the forest might have given up its struggle to survive as its bretheren trees were cut down- one after another. The trees seem to give their thanks as you speak the words, even though you are unsure of what exactly you are saying. The only speech of the woods you learned for the ritual, which also happens to be the only words in that language the human tongue can mimic. Something bothers you, however. Instead of the rustling of the leaves, you hear silence. It is unsettling, actually sending a chill down your back. You shake it off and look around. Your portion of the ritual is over, but perhaps you should inform someone of this.
