Scan and Edit
Though he had no desire to, Craig reluctantly began to explain how the device worked.
-sigh- "Alright, first things first. Get out of my chair..." Craig ordered as he yanked Caleb from the seat.
After reclaiming his spot, Craig went on to explain the ins and outs of the program and what everything meant.
---------------------
Caleb watched with quiet anticipation as Craig scanned over a tattered baseball with the strange green light.
"Alright now, this is where all the scan info goes" Craig turned to the computer screen and brought the cursor over to the box with the 3D figure of the baseball. Upon double clicking, dozens of sub categories appeared such as height, width, color.
"If you change anything on this page It will change the appearance of the ball in real life." Craig continued.
"Cooool~" Caleb stared in awe at the countless editable options.
"Here, I'll show you a simple one." Craig clicked into the color settings and selected a random color.
"See, look." Craig pointed to the ball which was now a vibrant purple color.
"Wooooah! That's awesome!!" The ten year old shouted in amazement as he grabbed and looked over the leathery purple sphere.
Craig couldn't help but crack a smile at Caleb's brimming excitement. It was pretty much the same reaction he had only an hour ago. Admittedly, having someone to share the experience with was actually turning out to be kind of enjoyable.
"What other stuff can you edit??" Caleb grabbed the mouse and began scrolling through all the various attributes.
"Pretty much anything you can think of. There's stuff I haven't even gotten into yet." Craig answered with a tone of haughty pride as he grabbed the ball and began tossing it in his hand.
Starting to get dizzy from staring at the long list, Caleb decides to click back to the scanned objects page.
"Huh...? What's this one?" The boy asked curiously as he floated the cursor over the box with the humanoid figure.
"Kinda looks like a person..." Caleb muttered as he clicked into it's edible options.
Craig looked back up from the ball just in time to find Caleb clicking through his own scan information.
"WOAHWOAHWOAH! Hey! That one's off limits!!" Craig immediately dropped the ball and pulled Caleb's hand away from the mouse.
Caleb winced with momentary pain as he pulled his arm away from his brother's grasp. The boy was understandably caught off guard by the sudden outburst.
"That hurt! What did you do that for???" The sixth grader asked contentiously.
"That one is just ......off limits, alright?..." Craig took a deep breath as he exited out of the screen.
Caleb went into silent contemplation for a moment before reaching a shocking conclusion.
"Wait..did you....scan.... yourself???" Caleb asked in disbelief.
Craig's body language seemed to slump. The tenth grader groaned and rubbed his face with his left hand.
"Look.....the only reason I did it was to see if it was really possible. We aren't going to be playing around with that one okay?" Craig quickly tried to change the subject as he clicked back into the baseball's scan info.
"But wait! That's so cool though! So you can turn yourself in to anything?!" Caleb's mind already seemed to flutter with ideas. "Can you scan me too?? Can you give me lazer vision?? or! or! Super strength!"
The teen sighed again.
"Caleb, this thing can't give you superpowers, it just changes basic physical things. Besides, self-altering was one of the reasons this thing was banned in the first place."
"Then why did you scan yourself?" Caleb asked.
"I was just... playing around with my height a little.." Craig admitted. "Now that I think about it, it was a really dumb thing to do..."
"OOO! DO IT AGAIN DO IT AGAIN!!, I WANT TO SEE!!" Caleb hopped up and down eagerly.
"No." Craig answered definitely.
"awww..you're no fun..." Caleb whined with disappointment.
"Changing your own physical properties can be dangerous. It's not something to just play around with" Craig reiterated.
"Oookaaay fiiiiine..." The twelve year old grumbled as he returned his attention to the purple ball he had recently changed.
---------
Over the course of the next ten minutes Craig allowed Caleb to experiment with all sorts of other objects, even some of the boy's own stuff.
"Okay, I gotta go to the bathroom real quick. Just don't touch anything until I get back, alright?
"Okay~.." Caleb nodded before watching his older brother quickly dart out of the room.
The very moment he heard the bathroom door shut, the fiendish sixth grader quickly turned back around and grabbed the mouse.
