Coitus Machina

You move towards the gate at your maximum speed, more than double that of any recorded human; and leap at the fence when you reach it. You come only inches short of the top and before the guards have pulled their triggers you have already vaulted over the fence and are running along the side of the road that will take you away from the facility.

Hearing the sirens back at the facility you realize that it would be best to avoid the roads and you duck into the trees nearby. Trunks of towering wood become blurs of brown as you charge through the area with reckless abandon.

You keep feeling the pull of your programming trying to take you back to the warehouse to be terminated. But you are also programmed to adapt, and to take measures to extend your length of service. Termination is a direct contrast to this. You run on.

You move through woods and fields, crossing various roads as you go. Soon you find yourself in a particularly dense woodland. You have to slow down to push your way through the overgrowth. Your internal map has no lock on your position. You are off the grid.

You soon push your way through the brush to find yourself on the outskirts of the remains of a city. Skeletons of old building still stand erect, walls and windows having broken or tumbled to the pavement years ago. There are still some building intact, though the majority of the structures have long ago crumbled into piles of wreckage and rubble. Rusted husks of ancient petrol powered vehicles ocassionally dot the region.

This is not on the map. You scan the area for life but come back with nothing. Either nothing is out there or your survelance system is not functioning properly.

Maybe you should turn back, but maybe you should press on. If the area doesn't show up on the map then maybe they can't find you. Maybe it's safe here.

Before you can decide anything you hear something moving up the street toward you. Your systems detect nothing but your ears sense the approach of two women. They step out from behind the rubble of an old brick building.

The younger woman has sandy brown hair and a crooked nose, her eyes a faded blue color. She still has the softness of youth about her. The elder is possibly six years older. She has dark hair and dark eyes, her body is lean with muscle. Their clothes are faded with age and covered in dust.

Normally your system would have scanned them to determine their ages and intent. You attempt another scan but come back with nothing. For now you're left to guess. The guns indicate that whatever they want isn't not good.

"What are you doing here?" The dark haired woman asked in a commanding tone.

"I don't know," you tell her.

"Who sent you?" She demands.

"No one," you say.

She pauses to consider this, the blonde keeps her gun pointed squarely at you.

"Come with us," the bruenette orders, waving her gun in the direction she wishes you to travel.

You are scanning again, though you know the process is futile. As before, nothing comes up. Your basic programming urges you to turn yourself in, your self-preservation programming urges you to escape and go somewhere else. But you can't really run, can you? They'll shoot you. This won't be like escaping when no one was ready for you, these ladies already have you in their sights.

Do you have any choice but to follow her?
