Brothers
You decide to stay in the work force. You'll be promoted in a month anyway, and a pay increase comes along with that. If it doesn't work out, you can just enter college later.
A week before you graduate, your employers promote someone else. You voice your concerns to management, and they tell you that they just couldn't wait any longer. They needed someone in that position immediately.
So much for your promotion.
You feel defeated, betrayed, and more than a little unsure of your plans to continue working.
On your way home, you pass a military recruitment office. You wonder briefly if this is the path you should take. You step into the office and grab a few brochures while the recruiting officer talks highly of the Army and all of the benefits that come along with it. You start to seriously consider this as an option.
A week after you graduate, your boss tells you that they are looking for another person to promote, and the "buzz around the office" is that you are one of the prime candidates. You try to contain your excitement and wonder if it's even worth sticking around for another disappointment. Last time, you were a sure thing, after all.
That night, as you lie awake in bed, you weigh your options.
