"Wha no! They wouldn't! My wife and son have nothing to do with this!"
"Do you think scum like the Syndicate cares? They're ruthless, you know their reputation."

"You would be depriving them of life, just because YOU are unwilling to part with something as fleeting as money! Even if you care nothing for your own life, don't you think your son deserves the chance to grow up? And even if the Syndicate's wrath is only directed at you, don't you think your wife and son deserve a husband and father? You're letting your PRIDE get in the way. One of the teachings of the One True God is to NOT let pride control your actions. "
Your words have finally had an effect on the merchant. He certainly doesn't want anything to happen to his family. You tell him you'll give them the money directly and tell them if they do try to bother him again, you will intervene, he seems relieved he doesn't have to face them and thanks you.
Soon you find the Syndicate members again and toss the money at them, telling them that BOTH debts have been paid and that you don't want to have anymore dealings with them anymore. One simply smiles and says "We'll see, holy man." before leaving.
You feel sick, your actions were little better than the Syndicate's, you even threatened the merchant's family. You've learned a lesson today and that's mainly one who deals with evil cannot ever come away from it completely clean even if it was in the cause of goodness.
You will have to make your own penance as well for your actions.
If you have any Prayers you've just lost them all. If you don't have any Prayers, you end up whipping and hitting yourself in an attempt to "purify" yourself. In this case you lose 4 Initial STAMINA points and 1 SKILL point.
