Lost in a Good Book- A Child's Tale

Rebecca was the first one to the car in the morning in fact she had been sitting there for a long time before anyone else crept to the car. Marcus looked sullen, and tired. Edward's eyes were rimmed in red, and he wouldn't look at Rebecca. Today there was no fighting across the front and back seat. Rebecca's stomach dropped a bit, she felt their sorrow as if it were her own. She didn't even know what was wrong, but she felt how hard things were for them.

"Morning Becaroo," Mom said smiling mildly. "You like the whole library thing don't you?"

Rebecca smiled pleasantly and nodded. She didn't want to talk yet it would ruin the magic of the day. Light reflected off all the cars they passed. She was already in her own happy world, following in her mother's shadow in ignoring the unpleasant reality of her life.

It seemed like ages before they arrived at the library again. When they finally made it, she hopped out and ran straight to the door. She almost forgot to wave goodbye to her mother. She turned and raised a hand to find her mother's car already moving quickly away. Her heart stumbled a bit, it made her sad that her mother hadn't even waited for her to say goodbye. She convinced herself it didn't matter though. She opened the door and ran pell-mell straight for the children's room. She decided yesterday's books were kind of childish. She wanted to read bigger kid books today.
