The House On The Corner

You listen by the window for any sound of movement, but hear none. All you hear is the steady movement of the trees as the day seems to get darker. You step over the window ledge and put your foot on the old couch. It creaks slightly under your weight, but holds you fairly steady as you step down onto the floor. You remember the small penlight you have attached to your keychain and fish it out of your pants and turn on the little light. It is amazingly bright in this gloomy little room. You can make out the shadows of a wall cabinet, bookshelf, several lamp stands and another chair. You reach over to switch on the lamp, when you hear a noise coming from the upstairs somewhere. You can either try the lamp or walk on toward the stairs to see what made the noise. Exploring the downstairs right now would seem to make more sense, but that noise seemed awfully strange. Either way, it's up to you.
