From Darkness It Comes

Talking Through Things With His Love

The dorm room door opens and two figures shamble in, one carrying a box. They separate as Darrin heads over to the desk to put the box back in the drawer he kept it in and Lisa nearly collapses into a sitting position on the bed.

Darrin turns to her, leaning against the desk, and smiles weakly down at her. "Sorry about all of that. I never wanted to drag you into any of this."

After a pause he adds, "Whatever it is."

They stare at each other for a long moment again. The air between them thick with a million thoughts and questions that neither of them seem to be able to ask or answer. Both of them shift a little and Darrin lowers down to sit on the chair he pulled out from the desk.

"He's rather creepy?" Lisa says, trying to keep the tone in her voice light. "Isn't he?"

"Yeah. More than you even know." Darrin slumps as if giving into the tension weighing down on him.

"How long have you known him?"

Darrin lets out a quick snicker. "Two days. I think. At the most."

Lisa looks shocked. "Two days? That's it? And he treats you like that?"

Darrin nods. "Yep, and he expects me just to buy all of it at face value just because he said it was prophesized. Like I know anything about that crap?"

"Well," Her voice dips into serious tones. "He did seem to sound like he meant it."

"Yeah." Darrin lets out a deep sigh. "That's what scares me."

"And there was that murder last night."

"I know." Another solemn sigh escapes him. "I think that's what convinced me to listen."

"So, do you believe him? Are you some kind of chosen one, here to save us?"

"I dunno. I don't really want to be. I just wanted to come here and go to classes and meet a great girl."

Lisa smiles and raises an eyebrow to him. "So far you have two down and classes start tomorrow."

Darrin looks at her, a small smile creeping over his lips. "You know what I meant. All that WITHOUT the voodoo mumbo jumbo and demonology lessons."

Lisa snickers to herself. "So you want some kind of boring old school without any secrets, surprises, or excitement?"

"Well," Darrin says with a naughty smirk. "Not that kind of excitement, at least."

Returning the wicket smile in kind Lisa knowingly asks, "And what kind of excitement did you have in mind?"

It seems the recent mood change has all but driven the fear and anxiety of the previous experience from both their heads. Darrin gets up and moves over next to Lisa on the bed, taking her hand. "The kind you expect to have when you go away to college and meet the most amazing girl in the world."

"Oh, really?" She scoots close to him. "How amazing?"

He leans in close to her and whispers. "Like the rest of the world doesn't exist when she's around." On that he kisses her before she has a chance to say anything else. He can't believe how amazing it feels, her lips pressed against his. It's a dream come true. He hopes it can last forever.
