The Thing Revisited

Riles walked out to the remainders of the outbuildings. Nothing remained but twisted metal scraps and broken wood.

Interestingly, a large hole near the center of the remains of the second building gaped up like a sickly pore. The floor of the hole was about four feet below Riles' feet, and Riles could see that a tunnel drifted forward and to the right from the bottom of the hole.

Riles wondered whether he would be getting himself into trouble by dropping into the hole alone to investigate, or whether it was even worth doing it at all.
