You were given a strange gift when you were younger. It was given by a kindly but strange old man who lived in the same apartment complex that your mother and you had. It has stayed with you ever since. No one knows about the gift. You've never told. And you doubt very strongly that anyone would believe you if you had.

It wasn't a gift that came wrapped, and it wasn't in any type of physical form. The old man laid his hand on your shoulder one day and blew some smoke into your ear. His breath was hot and you remember the scent beying far from pleasant. When he was done he whispered to you that you would be able to know things about people at a glance that most would never know.

It was an odd experience, to be sure. But ever since then if you found yourself looking into someones eyes, you experienced the last twenty-four hours of thier life in a flash before your eyes. As a result, very little suprises you. It can all be overwhelming at times, but its advantages are innumerable.
