The Third Eye

Groggily, you sit up in your bed and stretch. You didn't have any dreams last night. You can't remember the last time you had a dream of your own. Ever since the old man instilled you with the gift the only dreams you see are those that flash through your mind when you look into someones eyes. But from what you recall, your dreams never made much sense anyway.
You put your feet on the floor, still sitting on the bed. You glance at the clock. It is nearly 10:30. Time to start your day.

You don't have a job or anything. You realised long ago that you dont need to work. You make a living by using your "talent" to your advantage. Perhaps that's wrong, but that's how it is. That's how you survive.

You stand up and walk to your fridge. You take out a couple of eggs and crack them open over a pan. While your eggs are frying, you go back into the fridge for a beer. Newcastle makes the best brown ale. And nothing goes better with breakfast than beer.

After eating your eggs and drinking your beer you shower and dress and head for the door. You lock the door behind you and walk down the set of steps that take you to the main exit to the apartment building.

You step outside and take in a deep breath of the fresh air. The sun is warm on your skin and it relaxes you. As you stand there an attractive woman walks past you one way. You look into her eyes and immediatley know too much about her.

She is on her way to a business management class at the university. She is almost ready to graduate. She has a bit of a headache from heavy drinking last night at a local pub. She regrets much of what happened during her drunken evening. She was taking her clothes off before an audience of patrons while her boyfriend stared into his drink, embarassed and angry. He ended up leaving her there and she's still not entirely sure how she got home. Last night she dreamed that he was with her, but when she awoke she realised he was not. He would never be again. She vomited for almost an hour this morning, partialy from the hang-over, partialy from the heavy knot of regret in her stomach. She screwed up bad and she regrets it. She dressed quickly that morning and put her money in her bra. She doesn't know how much, but there are at least two twenties in there.

Crossing your path the other way is a business man carrying a briefcase in his hand. He is dressed in a suit. When you look into his eyes you find that he is pretending to be a salesman, but in reality he is carrying drug money to his crime lord. He is nervous. He was supposed to have turned the money in three days ago, and the boss-man was not pleased. There is well over ten thousand dollars in the case. He is a dirty man. His dreams are nightmares of people he killed or allowed to die coming to claim thier revenge on him. Primarily in his dream was the face of a little girl named Katy. Her death bothers him. He had held her head under the water of a creek until she stopped struggling. That was the drawback to his career.

The drawback to your career is that you must take advantage of people to live comfortably. Who do you follow?
