The green dragon flies you and Alasse to a black river, even blacker than the Lake of Nightmares, where you destroyed the evil monster. All woodland around is dead, and the forest is silent.
Alsse looks around, tears staining her blindfold. You put an awkward arm around her, wishing that you could cover her eyes and somehow prevent her from seeing this horror. But you know that covering her eyes would not work. For Alasse is a sage, and sages see not with their eyes, but their minds. To remove their blindfold means that you remove their power, making them ordinary.
Somewhere far off, you can hear the sound of someone singing. Alasse tilts her head to look at you. "What should we do, Lady Esther?" she asks.
