The Babysitter
They threw their cards down.
In an instant, the light bulbs flickered and a gust of wind blew through the open window. Jacob yelped and stood back, covering his eyes. Sam started feeling woozy. It was like being in a tornado confined in the tiny space of the boy's bedroom. Sam's eyes felt hot and bright. He saw shapes dance in front of his eyes until he couldn't see at all. But he could hear. Both boys heard papers and posters and window shades flying around. It was complete madness.
And just as suddenly as it came, the weather phenomenon ceased to be. Jacob's room was still. The boy sat up and looked around, more confused than ever before. Books and papers were sprawled across the floor, lying agape and misplaced, and the big high schooler Sam was nowhere to be found.
"Maybe..." Jacob pondered. He rushed to the mirror to see if his wish had come true. Maybe the fortune tellers cards were magical, and his wish had become a reality. "...Rats," he sighed. Nothing had changed. He wasn't all grown up. He was still just his normal self. He looked over at the war cards. "I didn't even win!" the boy exclaimed. Sam beat him by just a single sliver of moon.
Colors and shapes danced around right before Sam's eyes.
The confused teenager sat up. "What just happened?" he whispered under his breath. He must have somehow teleported. He looked down. He was in his birthday suit, standing in tan-colored grass. Another breeze flew by. The embarrassed kid covered his extremities.
Sam was slowly gaining focus. He looked to his left and looked to his right in an attempt to find something about where he was or how he got here. Everything was big, blurry, and far way. The landscape looked like an alien planet with obtuse buildings and weird grass. "Am I dreaming? Am I passed out right now?" Sam blinked a couple times. "Nope, not a dream."
He gazed across the horizon, spotting a metal sculpture on top of a blue building. Frowning, he took a closer look. The metal sculpture seemed oddly familiar to him. It looked like a belt, or more specifically, like a shiny, metal belt buckle. Sam did a double take. "Huh, my belt buckle is exactly-"
THUMP
Sam turned around. What he saw made his mouth fly open. It was a giant bare foot, right in front of him, in fact it was TWO giant feet. His eyes followed the feet up. They were connect to two gargantuan legs, inside of a huge pair of soccer shorts, bound by a mile-wide elastic waist band, connected to an even bigger T-shirt, stretching up to a thick neck, holding up Jacob's giant-sized head, containing his car-sized green eyes. Sam was in awe.
Sam, as expected, started freaking out. He sat down again, his mind pacing. He thought back to the game, back to his stupid wish. What did he think of again? Eternal life? No. Being rich? Nope. It was... It was...
"Holy shit.
"I wished for 'all my problems to shrink'," Sam thought. He was practically screaming in his own head. If he was right, if the wish came true like this, then he was in trouble.
THUMP
Sam snapped back to reality. The giant boy was admiring himself in the mirror, but he looked crestfallen and lost interest.
Sam cried out to him, "Jacob, down here!" he screamed, "Something happened to me, I shrunk! My wish came true, kind of!" The energetic boy was looking down, but he couldn't see or hear his tiny friend. Sam watched in slow motion as the giant kid put one bare foot down, then another. He slowly realized he was in the giant's direct path.
Jacob's left foot came crashing down next to the tiny teen. Sam screamed in terror. The boy was just walking absentmindedly. He had no idea that he might step on something alive...
