Forest Dweller

You close your eyes, asking the wood for help. You are startled- it is listening! You feel the wind seem to carress a reply.
Ayla is in danger? It says, whispering sweetly.
Yes, you reply. I cannot handle these men alone. You feel a soft and assuring reply, feeling your body grow warmth from the wood's kindness.

Suddenly a deer leaps out of the bushes, knocking the man over. He is totally caught off guard and drops his gun, but as he reaches for it and the deer leaps off of him, sprinting through the woods, the ground falls apart, dropping to the river below. You don't remember there being a cliff here- but the wood does does work in mysterious ways. As you hear a splash from the bottom, the ground closes up again. You cautiously walk over and stand on the area, but it is hard and unmoving. Ayla! You give the woods your thanks and run off. Ayla is backed up against the oak tree. You ask for the aid of the wood again, but you sense it is tired. You'll have to do this on your own.
"Come on, love. Give us some sugar. But leave some for our friend when he gets back."
"No! Stay back!" You remember the gun, but it is far behind you. Besides, you don't want to use the instrument of man. Then again, you HAVE learned how to speak to the wood, perhaps you can ask it for advice. You try your best, but time is running short and they are advancing on Ayla. You cannot concentrate. The only other option is battle. The woods whispers a mere whisper that causes your hope to rise- the leader is dead.
