You provide Lars with the fastest steed in your stables and charge him with finding the second patrol.

After seeing him off, you return to your quarters and open an old, worm-eaten chest at the foot of your bed. It has been some time since you last donned your armor. Your hauberk has served you well, turning more than a few blades that would have otherwise tasted flesh. You slip it over your jerkin and place an iron halfhelm over your scalp. Lastly, you buckle your swordbelt, and sheath your trusted blade. Your equipment is plain and utalitarian. No frills, no gilded hilts, just cracked leather and sharpened steel.

Though you are loathe to leave Gurny alone in the tower, you have little choice. He promises to keep watch and to open the gate upon your return. You leave the distraught guardsmen and make your way to the grounds.

Jaf is already there waiting for you, flanked by two horses. He tosses you Lightswift's reigns, and you pat the old girl on the nose.
