Days in the Dorm

Too Much Time Away

You figure that Sam and her friend would most likely like to have some time alone again, and the silent movie marathon continues tonight so you can do that again. It may not be the most comfortable place to sleep, but at least it's safe and dark.

After being kicked out in the morning and getting something to eat over at the commissary you head back to your room again. You walk in and see Samantha and her friend, a lovely woman with long black hair, standing in the center of the room and kissing passionately. Your eyes widen and your jaw drops as they pull away from each other and look at you.

Sam smiles and says, "Dan. I want you to meet Darline." The dark haired woman puts her hand out to shake yours as Sam continues. "She and I have decided to move in together and it's all thanks to you."

You shake Darline's hand then stare at Sam dumbstruck. All you manage to get out is "Huh?"

"Yeah," Sam says, taking Darline's hand in hers. "The last couple nights alone have been amazing and we think we are wanting to have that be a permanent thing. We're both kind of sick of guys and their macho bullshit, so we are going to give this a spin."

"Really?" You say in a weakened voice. "So you are giving up on guys?"

"Yeah," Says Darline, speaking for the first time. "There doesn't seem to be any good ones that show interest, so it's probably for the best. Besides, how can you not love this woman?"

They giggle and hug again, before separating and Darline starts for the door, walking past you. Sam watches her go and speaks with true happiness in her voice. "You go get the place ready and I'll start packing up here. Love you."

"Love you too." Is the last thing Darline says before leaving the room.

You are still in shock and somehow get wrangled into helping Sam move out of your place and into hers. Out of your life, although she says you two will always be friends. You know what that means and you don't think you could stand watching her with another woman knowing her as you do. Instead you move on, go to class, and occasionally run into the loving couple around campus. She seems happy and that's all that matters. Right? Well, not for this story. It kind of brings it to an end.
