You decide to let her go and focus your attention on the pack hanging from a limb far above. Climbing the tree is difficult, and it takes some time, but you manage.
It appears to be an ordinary looking brown canvas back pack, but when you attempt to lift it you find it much heavier than you imagined. You estimate that it ways a good twenty pounds.
You decend the tree slowly, encumbered with the weight and careful not to drop whatever it is. When you reach the ground you inspect the pack.
A metal sphere is at the bottom, like some sort of exhaust pipe. The straps have buttons on them and a wire hangs out from the top of the pack.
Opening the pack you find the wire connected to something that can only be described as a joystick, similar to those used by primitive video game consoles.
It is a jetpack.
You wonder briefly after the wisdom of having a jetpack in a forest, but realize that it doesn't matter. Only an idiot would use it in the woodlands, and that person would deserve their inevitable death.
