Shadows Of The Lost

Has the news ever lied? They say to barricade the house...

"...We should start boarding up the doors and sealing all the cracks." I say, looking at the girl with reassurment. I think she almost smiled as she nodded. I began to rise. If I were to board up this place, then I would need something...that the 'things' couldn't get through...

The girl was still holding my hand.

"...um...why are you holding my hand?" I ask, tilting my head slightly. The girl looked at me like I was nuts...then looked at her hand. "Oh, heh..." she said as she let go. "Sorry...lets just say that I had issues when I was a little kid..." She started to look at the ground, like she was trying to hide her face.

Issues...? Wait a second...she was the girl who burned down that Middle school...! Her name was Anju, and she had slight mental problems, they say. I began to remember those days when I teached that 7th grade Middle school...I had quit for bigger jobs a few days before she burned down the school. Anju was one of my favorite students, outgoing and sweet and nice. But whenever I mentioned that I was leaving to go to another, better job, she completely freaked. Was it my fault that she went mad and burned down that school...? It can't be coincidence that she somehow managed to move ten miles to the same neighborhood that I lived in afterwards. I didn't even notice it was her until now...

...why am I remembering this all now? At a time like this? I'm only wasting time...

Anju slipped her hand back into mine. She was like a child holding the hand of her father...

...where was her father? Did he get torn to bits by the...

OH SHIT! The creatures! I need to barricade this house!
