The man's facial expression doesn't bode well, as it grow ever darker the longer you take to respond. You quickly read his mind and find out that he intends to blast you to kingdom come with a bolt of blue lightning! Thinking as quickly as you can, you focus on controlling the man's emotions, so that he sees you as a long-time friend. His visage changes immediately, as he dismounts and extends his hand for you to shake, rather than take the zappy end of.
"Weenaya gahYOO sah beetah gloden, boyah!" he says, laughing, putting his arm around you, and directing into his cottage.
The man, you discover from reading his mind, is the father of the girls that were in the field. This is confirmed when they join you two in the cottage a few hours later.
In the meantime, the Dad has you dressed in a spare reaper's outfit, which fits nicely, and is a heck of a lot better than that ratty loincloth, even though you'll still technically be viewed as a peasant. The Dad is regretful about the clothes, you read in his mind, but it is the only spare outfit he has. He beckons you to join him in a nice hot meal of rabbit that you read he has killed earlier in the day. Apparently, the only two pests on this man's farm are rabbits and naked serfs. Lucky you, huh? As you are enjoying the meal, the girls return from work and happily sit down to join you both.
After dinner, you Control your host into giving up his own bed (which is the nicest). He then sleeps on the woven rug in front of the fireplace. Perhaps after a good night's sleep, tomorrow will be an easier pill to swallow...
