It's been a long journey, but you're almost there. You're also really hungry, you must eat one ration now or lose 3 STAMINA points. While you're eager to finally get to Holgard, you've picked a bad time to do it. Bandits have been waylaying travelers to and from here recently. Before you make the final stretch to Holgard test your LUCK and add 2 to the result. (You don't need to add 2 if you were warned by a merchant)
If you're lucky, you manage to catch sight of some bandits unsuccessfully trying to hide to ambush you, one of them is unwilling to fight without an advantage and runs off.
If you're unlucky, they manage to ambush you and hit you for 4 STAMINA points of damage and one of them manages to steal two things from your backpack before running off.
In either case you have to battle the bandits that stuck around to fight. You'll have to fight them at the same time.

If you win, you only find 10 gold pieces, apparently the bandits probably stashed their ill gotten gains else where. You continue on.
