David crouched behind another tree. Yells from soldiers could be heard carrying through the forest. David looked up through the canopy of trees at the stars...so peaceful from here...
"Alright everybody, I want David and Morgan to go to the left and circle around behind the squads. Bernice and I will head to the right. Ready? Move!" Alex's voice cut his thoughts again.
"God damn, do you always have to interupt me?" David said under his breath. He ran from his cover and got into line behind Morgan. They flanked the squads to the left as they passed by. The motion tracker was almost full of red dots, and some people passed nearly ten feet away from them. Morgan came to a stop behind a rock and scoped around with her rifle. David looked at her out of the corner of his visor.
"You know, if it were under different circumstances, I would be making out with you right now in these trees," he said.
"Maybe when we get back to the ship and take off, babe," she momentarily looked at him, and he could tell she was winking at him the way she always had.
"Hey people, we've got a good window of time to get to the base from here. It's still another quarter mile or so, but we can make it if we hurry. Bernice, take the front, tell us if you see anything. I'll be right behind her. Morgan, cover both of us. David, you get to make sure no one shoots bullets up our asses."
"God damn it, could you be any more annoying?" David shook his head. He was glad he wasn't talking into the comm. then.
"Moving now," Morgan said.
"Why the hell do I always have to do this?" David complained as he moved into position.
"You piss me off," came his response.

The team covered the quarter mile in thirty seconds, running full speed up the hill. At the top, the tree cover ended abruptly in a trench.
"Morgan, check it out," Alex said quietly. She moved up, crouched, and scoped out the area.
"I've got two lookouts on the towers closest to us, and three guards at a side entrance to the left," she said. "Orders?"
