In The Day

The waitress nods and walks away to get your drinks.

You look back down at the menu but you can't help but shake the feeling that someone is staring at you. You look up to see that that 'someone' is your best friend.

"What?" you ask nonchalantly before glancing back down at the menu.

"Haven't you heard of the news that the United Nations just released."

"No, why would have I?"

"It's huge," your friend explained, "They just reported today that we only have twelve more years to stop climate change before we see catastrophic environmental disasters take place," your friend said, their eyes focused on you before turning back to menu. "Isn't that just crazy?"

"Yeah, totally," you say, glancing back down at the menu, "But what do straws have to do with any of it?"

"It is on the Earth forever."

"What do you mean?" You ask as you lift your eyebrow.

"I mean, it takes two-hundred years for the straws to even decompose and even then they don't fully break down."

Dang, you had no idea those little plastic straws could have such a big impact.

The waitress comes back with your drinks and you almost feel guilty when you look at yours, your eyes focusing on the white straw.

"And what can I get you two to eat?" they ask, placing each of our glasses down before us.

Your friend rattles off of their order as you frantically look up and down the menu. You're not sure if you should get the same order that you always do or if you should try something different.
