"I am but a pale snowdrop compared to the lily that is Jane. But alas, she is ill Master Withenthrop and I fear that she will not live long."
Edmund, whose base and better instincts had been appealed to in one request, was moved to agree to help.

Caroline reached her arms around Edmund's neck and kissed him in a passion of gratitude, clinging to his body.
