A Tale of Two Choices

Caroline let Edmund go, promising that she would have the carriage and horse ready at seven o'clock the next morning so they could begin their rescue of Jane and Edmund went downstairs for the ball.

The night was splendid. Edmund could not have wished for a better twenty first birthday party. He danced with all the pretty girls and smoked cigars and drank port with the influential men. There was not a cross word the whole evening and the occasion would be talked about for years to come.

"I can make your fortune my lad. I want you to come with me tomorrow morning to the Houses of Parliament, and I will explain all then."
