The Prophet

Tears stream down your face as you realize you are a weaker man than you believed beforehand.

"Lord, I cannot undertake such a task. I have a loving family and happy life here. I do not wish to abandon it for anything! I am unworthy of your love."

Alru furrows his brow, "Child, do not fret. All my creations have choices they must make in this life, and you have clearly chosen that you do not wish to be my prophet."

You slowly nod your head in agreement.

"I depart from thee. Another shall take up the mantle." With that Alru vanishes from sight.

You remain on the balcony for the rest of the evening contemplating your life. You come to the conclusion that you can no longer worship Alru. After refusing a great destiny from him it just doesn't sit right with you any longer to be a hypocrite.

You set aflame all your texts and scrolls with the words of Alru and never speak of his love, mercy and justice ever again to anyone. The years go by and you always feel as if a part of you is missing, empty. Something died on that day, and you believe it may have been your soul.

You wake up day after day, month after month, year after year managing your farm. Checking on the health of livestock and the integrity of crops. You make deals in town with local merchants for your harvest and are for the most part successful.

Ten years to the day of Alru appearing to you, you are standing in the fields behind your prized cow Bessie. You are starring into nothing, only pondering on how dull your life has been and how you passed up the greatest opportunity of your life. Nothing out of the norm has ever come your way and now you feel almost desperate to shake things up.

Your eyes wander to the supple rump of Bessie the cow.
