Coitus Machina
You make your way back into the warehouse to the crumpled bodies on the floor; only two of which still breathe. You take the identification tag from the woman you killed, she would have higher clearance than any of the others. You take the starting mechanism for her vehicle as well.
When you press the button, one car's lights come on and you make your way over to it, pressing the identification tag to the scanner when you reach it and then getting inside.
“Good afternoon, Candice. Where will we be going today?”
“Home,” you say with Candice’s voice. Replicating vocal patterns is easily done and part of your more basic programming. Sexual fantasies and all that.
“Setting a course for home,” the car says.
“No,” you say; again with Candice’s voice. “Manual drive,” you say, giving the command that overrides the computers driving and allows you to control the machine. You press the accelerator down with your foot and use the steering column to maneuver your way out of the warehouse and towards the gates.
Your foot slams down on the accelerator, and you gain momentum quickly. BEEP BEEP. "Warning," the computer says; "impact imminent if present course is maintained. Please divert course." You ignore the instructions. As you draw nearer to the gates the computer speaks again. BEEP. BEEP. "Warning impact imminent if current course is maintained. Would you like to revert to computerized control?"
"No," you say in Candice's voice. The car crashes through the gates as though they aren't even locked, bursting them open with barely a jolt. The women in the towers shoot at you, but few of the shots actually hit. One of the shots tears through the roof of the car and into the back seat, but the rest hit the ground around and behind you. In no time you are beyond their range, travelling onward down the dark and lonely road. The guards were clearly not used to firing their weapons... at least not at moving targets. Decades of global peace makes for poor soldiers.
Soon the road comes to an end, another road T-ing it off. This new road goes NW to SE. You scan your data banks and position yourself. Both directions will take you deep into isolated country areas, but NW would take you farther from Alice. You would like to be near her again. Perhaps that's not for the best though, she did send you off to be terminated.
Or maybe you should do something completely unexpected and ditch the car. Take off on foot straight ahead, cut through the farms and patches of woodland and figure things out later.
Either way you need to make your decision, it won't be long before the soldiers back at the base will be after you.
