The Uplink World

You continue walking along the street.
The rain is beating down on your coat. At least you had the common sense to put on your waterproof coat before you went out.
In the distance, you can hear the wail of sirens. A feeling of fear starts to swell through your body, until you recognise ther pitch as that of a fire engine.
You pull the cords on your hood tighter and continue walking along.
The rain is getting harder, and it is starting to feel colder. Your fingers start to feel very cold, and you start longing for them to get cold enough that they go numb. That way, you'll be blissfully unaware of the biting cold.
A lorry going past you splashes you from a large roadside puddle, not that you'd notice with the amount of water already dripping off of your coat.
Another thunderclap could be heard, louder than before.
You notice an all night Internet café on the road.
Well, a cup of coffee could warm you up...
