Legend
"I don't need help from unbelievers! I have the One True God on my side, besides there's no time to waste!" you say.
Your self-righteous response gets a look of disappointment from the elf.
" I see well I think you're being a narrow minded fool to decline help, but I can't very well stop you. I certainly hope you succeed in your task, as it will save more elven lives, just as when you wiped out our evil cousins."
"Yes, while the rest of you faltered in wiping out the evil, I succeeded. And once again such events will repeat themselves."
This response now gets a frown and narrowing of the eyes. He says nothing and just walks away, muttering something about humans.
You head to the ruins fully expecting to be attacked by more undead, but nothing happens. The ruins themselves don't even contain anything. It's eerily calm, though Azoth begins to speak to you again.
"Little priest, you truly think you can stop what I have set into motion here? Then come inside and face me!"
A trapdoor you didn't notice before suddenly opens up.
"We shall see if your faith protects you!"
No point in turning back now, you descend into the darkness.
Unfortunately there isn't any light down here and you can only see what's immediately in front of you and even then just barely, due to this fact you'll have difficulty fighting anything you might run into down here.
You can create a small light source to dispel some of the darkness, but this will expend a prayer. Alternatively you may use another light source such as a lantern.
If you can't or don't want to do either of these things, you'll have a -2 to your attack score for all fights while down here.
With or without any light, you eventually reach a split in the corridor, however you can sense the evil coming strongly from the left so you walk down that way.
You head down the left corridor and the noises are getting louder, in fact they're starting to hurt your head. You hear Azoth's voice quite clearly in your mind.
"Weak minded fool! I can sense all your weaknesses! Pathetic! You won't even get the honor of being destroyed by me; I think someone wants to see you first!"
With that last taunt, you have a sinking feeling in your gut of you know what's coming next. And when you see her, you just try to forget about the twisted creature that Azoth has turned her into
Brenda appears from out of the darkness. She's a deathly gray color, with sunken eyes and a big bloody gaping hole in her stomach. A completely disgusting parody of what she once was.
"My love you've returned to me! Now we can be together again! All of us!" she says in a eerily melodic voice.
"No! You are NOT Brenda!"
"But I am, come to me and let us embrace. All of us!"
You suddenly feel a painful bite on the back of your leg. You turn to see a grotesque little creature and kick at it. It looks like some sort of baby, but a lot more hideous. You get a sick feeling when you realize that Brenda's stomach does have a wide hole in it.
"That's our baby! Isn't he beautiful?" Brenda exclaims and begins to laugh. The little abomination begins to laugh as well.
This is a nightmare and now you're even hearing the laughter of Azoth fill your head. Meanwhile Brenda and your son are fully intent on making you embrace them.
You can expend a prayer to give you the strength to keep your mind focused
If you have a potion of Willpower, you may drink it to get the same effect.
If you still have a lock of Brenda's hair you use this to remind yourself of what the real Brenda was like, making this mind twist more tolerable.
If you can't do any of these things, you'll have to subtract 3 from your combat rolls for this combat. In any case you still have to fight them at the same time.
