Legend

Your former village sweetheart opens her arms out and runs up to give you a big hug.

"It's you! I always knew you'd return one day!" she says and kisses you.

She's pretty happy to see you and doesn't seem to notice all the changes you have gone through. She just sees you as you were before you left. Somehow that's slightly comforting. She still looks about the same, though perhaps a slight sign of wear on her face is hinted at despite her cheerful demeanor.

You and she immediately go to where you two used to spend quality time together, where you impress her with your exploits (Carefully omitting certain bits and exaggerating others). As you tell her what you've done, you realize that you haven't been "adventuring" too much in the scheme of things, but these tales are more than enough to impress Brenda and make her think you're a real adventurer.

After telling her of your adventures, Brenda has her own information. Surprisingly things here haven't been that mundane as you thought they might be.

"If you haven't looked around you closely, you'll notice that the village has been in somewhat of a slump as far as moral fiber is concerned. Though it's not that bad yet, I sometimes worry about what it's starting to become." Brenda says.
"What brought all this on? Last time I remember most folks here were pretty law abiding and went to church on a regular basis." You ask.
"Well, they go to the tavern a lot more than church nowadays. That sort of all started when the crops started failing and the livestock got sick. I think it caused an air of depression that lead to more drinking. I should mention though most of the people here are still upstanding citizens though. I guess they're feeling a little defeated lately. That wouldn't be too bad by itself, but there are other elements here causing problems as well."
"Like what?"
"Well there are a group of refugees from another village called Edolaville that came here recently from some disaster that occurred there, most of them brought skills with them that have helped out a lot, but I dunno how it was back in their village, but they're a bit rougher than your average Altberger and they tend to carouse a lot. It also doesn't help that a gypsy caravan has only just set up camp outside the village. They come in here and cause trouble too sometimes and I KNOW that they're responsible for the increase in theft around here!"
"Hmm, and I was hoping to get a little peace while I was dropping by."
"You mean you didn't came back to stay?"
"Well I hadn't planned on it."
"Oh…" she says looking a little saddened. "It's just that, I thought maybe you just needed to get this adventure stuff out of your system…and…nevermind. It was foolish of me to believe you'd ever come back to stay. Not after seeing and doing all that you've done. I mean I guess it's surprising you even came back to visit. Not even Klint did that despite his bluster, assuming he's still alive."
"Klint's gone? Where did he go?"
"Well after you left this village to be an adventurer, he tried to get with me again, but I wasn't having any of it. He then began to rant about having to live in your shadow all the time and how you took me away from him. He then vowed he'd be a greater adventurer than you and how he'd show me what I lost. He left in the opposite direction you did a few days later."
"Sheesh, still pointlessly competing even when I wasn't here! I didn't even start that stupid rivalry to begin with!"
"I know…well anyway it was nice seeing you again. I have to go help my father. Taking over the family business and all. I hope you'll come see me again soon, we'll talk more!" Brenda remarks and leaves.

You are left to ponder your next move.
