Coitus Machina

You disconnect from your power unit and leave the house, heading out the front door and walking through town at a mild pace. You pass joggers and someone riding an antique bike from back when they still rode on wheels. They don't give you a second glance.

It's not uncommon for a companion bot to be sent out on errands for their masters, and you are no exception. Though technology has elimenated the need to leave the home for most purchases, there were still times when one was required to venture out; especially when looking at fresh produce or flowers, or inspecting the vintages of certain cheeses. So long as you don't appear to be in a hurry, you do not believe you will arouse suspicion.

When you reach the center of town you pause briefly before a companion bot retailer. You consider turning yourself in. There is no doubt that you are malfunctioning, that something is wrong with you. It is not beyond reasonable doubt that you may pose a danger to humanity.

The protocol that was programmed into you keeps rising to the surface of your thoughts. You've been doing your best to ignore the nagging so far, but perhaps it's right. Perhaps you should turn yourself in before you become a danger to everyone.
