Mystic Elevator

Caught in time -or- Not so alone

Desolation will be your companion, you decide. At least here you are sure you can survive for a while.

In a deep corner of your soul you cling desperately to the belief that you will find someone, anyone, alive or dead. Strange though it may sound, at this point you would be satisfied to stumble upon a corpse.

As the day wears on you start to come to grips with the reality that you will find no one. It is a very depressing feeling that gives you an empty sense of utter hopelessness.

You find a grocery store and collect some canned goods to sustain you. The smell of long rotted produce and long rancid meat is enough to make you vomit several times while inside. There is much haste in your step as you exit the grocer.

Entering a home you locate a can opener and walk the streets for several more hours with your bag of canned vegetables. You make a place for yourself on their couch and open one of the cans, eating the baked beans until the can is empty.

You stretch out on the couch and close your eyes, trying to fall asleep. It all feels so weird, you making yourself comfortable in a home you've never been to before. You almost feel guilty for breaking into their home and sleeping in their living room. It isn't long before your exhaustion catches up with you and you fall into a sleep, your unease quickly forgotten.

Your dreams are interrupted by the sound of something clattering to the ground outside of the house. Startled and a little apprehensive, you make your way over to the window and peer outside. You hear the growling before you see them, two dogs fighting with one another, slamming into whatever happens to be around them in the heat of the battle.

Feeling a bit more at ease, you return to the couch and sit. You laugh a bit to yourself as you half expected legions of zombies to be waiting outside the window. But it's just a couple of dogs.

You soon lay down again and fall into a restful sleep.

When you awaken in the morning there is a man standing over you. His face is far from friendly, his mouth fixed in a deep scowl. There is a shotgun in his hand, and as he notices you waking, he starts to point the barrel at your face.

"Stand up," he says, backing up a bit to allow you to stand.

You slowly rise, wondering if this isn't the home owner.

"What the hell do you think you're doing here?" he asks.

"I- I don't know," you admit, realizing how dodgy it sounds even as you utter the words.
"You just made the biggest mistake of your life," he says to you. "Go down into the basement," he demands, indicating the location of the basement with the barrel of his gun.

This whole situation is far from comfortable. Your mind reels, pondering a thousand possible scenarios. What the hell is this guy going to do with you in the basement? Perhaps you should try to overpower him, gain the upper hand and find out what his deal is. He doesn't seem like he would be difficult to take down, you just have to make sure you eliminate the shotgun from the equation.

You don't have much time to consider your options. You must make your decision.
