Mystic Elevator
Hope renewed. -or- The Mystic Elevator.
The door swings open with a creak, as though it has been there for quite some time and has long had a desperate need for oil.
You see a clean, narrow hallway, with a sign painted on the wall that looks as though it has been there forever. The sign reads "The Mystic Elevator" and is done in some sort of retro 70's style, white letters with red shadow.
At the end of the hall is an elevator. It is painted the same light blue as the door outside, though the blue paint looks old and is chipping in several places.
You wonder how you've never discovered this elevator before in the five years you have worked in the building. From the inside, it doesn't appear to be anything new. Shaking, your head you dismiss such speculation.
It doesn't really matter, does it? Before you is another elevator that can possibly take you upstairs, to work. You hope that it isn't broken like the main elevators, but somehow you get the feeling that it will work just fine.
You press the up button for the elevator and wait.
Much like your previous experience with the elevators, you hear nothing. Disappointed, you start to turn away, figuring it's just another malfunctioning elevator, when you hear a ding and watch as the blue doors slide open.
So it is working?
Satisfied, you slip inside and turn to face the numbers panel as the doors slide shut before you.
You stare at the panel of buttons. One push on the right button will take you to the proper floor. You laugh a bit at what stares back at you. The elevator has been used so many times that many the numbers have been worn out, taking on archaic and almost alien appearances. You need to get to the 4th floor.
After some extensive investigation you think you have it figured it out. It's either 4th button down, or 4th button up. You hit what you believe to be the 4th floor.
The doors slide closed in silence.
