Project Theta 27

You duck into the building nearest to you. Pieces of rubble and rock smash onto the street outside. The glass window above you suddenly explodes, and shards of hot glass pelt you. You cover your face, arms burning from molten glass, and you huddle in a corner, waiting for the pounding to stop. At some point you thought you heard screaming, but it seems to be more inside your head than out. Eventually the barrage of meteors end, and there is silence.

You pull your arms away, black with burns and coated in gray from soot and dust. Dirt cakes your hair, and your clothes are shredded and torn. Around you is a scene of utter destruction. Buildings lie in waste around you, craters litter the ground and heaps of metal are strewn around. Small fires burn here and there.

You hear a hiss. It sounds like a snake, but a bit hollower, like it was amplified and put inside a hollow tree. You turn around, but see nothing. You hear it again. It echoes. You keep looking around, but you still see nothing. Heavy footsteps pound against rock, but you cannot find the source. Suddenly you hear a shrill whistle, and turn around to face a gigantic 8-foot lizard bounding towards you.
