Time Traveller
You walk past the Sheriff and head left. He follows you without question, but you are feeling uneasy. The creaking is getting louder, and a breeze that smells musty is blowing in your face.
Presently, you come out into a great cavern, and nearly drop the lantern in shock.
"Whats a great cavern like this doing in a small mine?" You say to yourself. The Sheriff walks up beside you.
"Well, I'll be! Never seen the like o' this before. See, it's even got a rope bridge across it. How thoughtful!"
You look at the bridge. It is a hastily strung, unsafe looking affair, and the breeze is blowing it, making that creaking noise. Below you, the cavern drops away into darkness. Warily, you pick up a small stone and throw it off the side. It is a long time before you hear a faint splash.
Swallowing hard, you put your fears aside and step out onto the bridge. It sways uncertainly for a second, but seems like it will hold both you and the sheriff's weight. You make it to the other side and breathe a sigh of relief. The Sheriff reaches you also, and looks somewhat pale in the lantern light.
Suddenly, there is a loud, echoing snap, and one of the bridge's ropes snaps. You look on in horror as the weight of the bridge snaps the other rope, and the bridge falls to the other side of the cavern.
"Darned good thing we got across before that happened!" The Sheriff says shakily.
You continue on into the darkness, the only sounds your feet catching the dust, and your ragged breathing. Soon, you come to another junction. The left route does not look safe at all, but that could be a trick of the outlaws. The right way doesn't look any different from the passage you have been walking through.
Will you go left or right?
