The more you think about it, you decide that you've had more than enough adventures for a life time even if you didn't travel very far. You have a possible good thing here, why mess it up?
The first thing you do is tell Brenda that you're staying. Naturally she's thrilled at the news. Your parents and the people are as well. They still want to elect you as mayor, but you still decline as politics isn't your thing. You say that you'll just be the designated protector of the village and will do your best to defend it whenever possible. Your "regular job" consists mainly of scouting the surroundings of the village for possible dangers, so it isn't a completely mundane existence.
Eventually you and Brenda get married and have a couple of kids. They of course always want to hear about your "adventures." One of them even follows in your footsteps when he grows up. You don't try to stop him, after all if he decides he doesn't like it, he'll find out soon enough! You do give him most of your old gear which was more than you had when you started out.
Altberg grows and changes over time, but at the core it still remains a quiet village and your home.
In your later years you die in bed surrounded by loved ones. It was a good life and you had no regrets.
Though part of you always did wonder if you could've become a LEGEND.
