You remember during your unfortunate "quest" to get a manticore heart, you had to travel there and it being practically empty. You're guessing these are the ones who left.
"Hey Edolaville's safe. The manticore that was there is dead. I should know I visited the place recently." You say which causes them to stop their hostilities for a moment.
"You've been there?" one of them says with a gulp as if all the courage drained from him.
"You survived? How?"
While the others seem unwilling to challenge you, their leader dismisses your claims.
"Hah! I doubt he's been there! The manticore was old news and he probably heard it from a traveling merchant! We didn't leave because of a rampaging manticore anyway! We left because of a medusa that was systematically turning the entire town to stone!"
