"Maybe I should come and help him each day until he gets the potion done." I stared at him in horror.

"No! You can't do that!" I said, forgetting myself. He turned his beady black eyes on me and I shrunk back a bit.

"Oh Potter? Can't I? I believe I can do just that, and I believe it would be an excellent idea. Perhaps you'd get a potion done properly for once." I thought about the whole thing for three seconds and realized it would be hell.

"NO! You can't torture me like that!" I can't believe the words came out of my mouth, but I think Snape couldn't believe it even more than I couldn't. His eyes went wide for a moment, then he stepped forwards and grabbed me by my shirt collar.

"I think, Mr. Potter," he hissed at me, "that you can make the decision to accept my help, or you can make the decision to be very displeased with the events that the start of the season would bring to you."

"I will when you allow me and Potter time in your basement, alone, to work on his potions homework." Snape had an evil look in his eyes.

"You'll kill me," I whispered, appalled. He smiled faintly.

"You could wish I had done so, Potter," he spat out.

"Yes, please get rid of it now," Aunt Petunia said, wringing her hands.

"It's a promise?" Snape said, glancing at her. "We can work every day on the potion, you'll not try to disturb it." She nodded.

"Yes, yes, please, the neighbors will see!" she cried out. Snape let go of me and waved his wand again. The cauldron disappeared.

"This is nonsense!" Uncle Vernon said loudly. "This is blackmail in our own house!" Snape turned his eyes on him.

"Yes, yes it is," he sneered. Uncle Vernon looked like he was going to stay the color purple for years.

As for me, all I wanted to do was...
