You glance down at his hand, but do not reach out for it. "Shadow," you say as matter of introduction.
"Right," he says smiling a bit and backing away again. "I'm afraid dinner will be rather bland tonight," he turns the rabbit over above the fire as he speaks. "I couldn't seem to locate the spice rack."
You don't really know how to respond to this, so you don't. He walks over to the pile of wood and hands you a thick round piece. "Here. You can sit on this if you like." You take the stump and set it down beside the blaze but remain standing. He sets his own stump down and sits his rump upon it.
"Why don't you get the rabbit? It should be ready by now."
