"I'm content having a look around on my own, if you don't mind," You tell the man and he nods and goes back to looking through what seems to be a ledger. You proceed to wander the surprisingly expansive hotel, taking a look at the wood-panelled lounge and well-stocked bar, and taking discreet photographs when none of the few guests and staff are looking.
Maids are cleaning some of the rooms when you go upstairs, allowing you a look in. Some of them have wide double beds and wardrobes, whereas others have a simple single bed and clothes rail. It's quite a nice establishment, but it doesn't seem to have many residents. Perhaps you should talk to one of the maids, since they could give you a decent account of western life, and likely some gossip too.
