Time Traveller

As the gunshots get closer, you throw the necessary switches and fill in the necessary values on the screen. Your heart hammering madly, you activate the machine and almost vomit as your stomach does what feels like fifty somersaults. The machine vibrates and spins, sweeping through the probability matrix and bypassing the physics of time and space. Eventually, it comes to a bone-jarring halt.

Nervously, you step out of the machine and are greeted excitedly by the Overseer.
"Tell me everything!" He smiles, clapping you on the back, "It must have been a...is that a pistol?"
Looking down, you realise you are still holding the colt that the outlaws gave you. The Overseer's eyes look ready to pop out of his head as he gingerly takes it off you.
"I'll put this aside for study!" He says, staring at it as he slips it into a protective bag. While he is doing so, you look around the room. Nothing seems to have changed drastically. Luckily.
"Come now," The Overseer grins, "The others are all waiting to hear of the first experiment! We'll get a coffee and I'll write it all down."

Still stunned from your various ordeals, you follow the Overseer down the various clinically-white hallways of the lab. When you reach the canteen, it is filled with your fellow scientists - almost everyone you know! - and they all erupt into a roar of cheering and clapping. You are the first human being to have successfully travelled through time.

You are a hero.
