Darkness and Light

The man glares intently at Tagon, who suddenly screams in agony. "I am reading his thoughts," the man explains. Sweat drips down his face in buckets, and Tagon lets out another ear piercing scream, before his body goes limp.

The man sits down, grim faced and breathing heavily. All the while you could do nothing but stare at them in awe.

"There is great evil at work here, but this creature is just pawn."

"I know," you reply softly. "I was trying to stop him."

The man smiled. "Yes. Tagon doesn't have very many nice thoughts towards you I'm afraid."

"Is he dead?" you ask.

"No, I do not destroy. But I imagine he will be by morning."

"You're not a Hunter are you?"

"No, I work alone. And with any divine intervention God decides to give," He replied with a smile.

"Why did you stop him but ignore me?"

"I sensed two presences; one exhausted and desperate, and another angry with a strong desire to kill." He said as you turn away in shame. "Though you are physically weaker than him and had to flee, your strength of character greatly outshines his. There is nothing to be ashamed about. Speaking of strength, you need some blood to regain yours." He offers you his arm, and you look at him in surprise. "Don't worry," he says with a laugh. "I'm not poisonous. But don't take too much... I'm stronger than most humans, but that mind reading took it's toll on me."

"You trust me that much?" I asked in shock.

"There is evil in you but also much good, as there are in all creatures. I accept the fact that vampires need human blood to survive, and that doesn't make them totally evil. Just as the trees willingly offer their fruit to all creatures, I will give you some blood, because you need it more than I right now."
