You put a hand on the back of your head and let out an embarassed laugh.

"Shit," You tell him. "in all the rush to get out, I hadn't really thought much on where I was going."

He stares at you stupidly for a moment. "We sure ain't got the bulge on them," he says, shaking his head. He spits out some tobacco on the ground, the brown liquid forming a brief pool before being swallowed up by the hungry, dry earth.

You stare him in the eye. "What do you think we should do, then?" You ask him.

"I say we go North," he says to you. "The Vigilantes are a big outfit, but they don't have much power outside of Texas. The further north we go, the safer you are."

"Sounds like a good plan," You tell him.

He doesn't respond, just nodds his head with an annoyed smirk on his face.

The two of you stay beneath the cool shade, relatively cool anyway, for several hours. The sun is still high in the sky, but starting to decend, when you spot the cloud of dust on the horizon. It isn't much longer before you can make out the forms of at least three horses headed your way.

"Well," your Vigilante friend says, pushing himself forward from the rock. "I guess it's time we head off." He slips on his riding gloves and begins walking towards his stolen horse.

You're not entirely sure that you want to keep running, though. Eventually you may have to face these guys, and why not now? Wouldn't it be better to off them now so that they don't sneak up on you later?

"What are you waiting for?" your partner asks.
