Wild Night

"Nope, not really," you respond.

"Neither do I," he says blankly, staring straight ahead.

"And yet we're here," you venture.

"Paradoxical, isn't it?" he asks in a bored fashion.

"Maybe."

Suddenly, his eyes fill with intensity and he looks as directly at you as he possibly could, his left eye boring into your left eye and his right eye into your right. He mimics your look of fright. Then he says,

"If I had just one thing left on Earth to say, it would be this."

You wait. He doesn't continue.

"I'm going to go get a drink. Do you want something?"

"I don't drink," he responds dryly.

You've had about enough of him. You're pulling yourself out of your chair when he says abruptly,

"Don't go. There's something you need to know."

This guy has done nothing but frustrate you. On the other hand, his last words have intrigued you.
